Concerns of Golden Gate Park artificial turf & lighting

The San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department has proposed converting four soccer fields to artificial turf and adding 60′ lights at the Beach Chalet fields near Ocean Beach. The project would vastly increase the number of users of the fields, remove several trees, and significantly increase nighttime lighting at the west end of the Park. Golden Gate Audubon believes that the Recreation & Parks Department must complete an Environmental Impact Report before proceeding with the project, but the Department appears to be prepared to move ahead without further environmental review or mitigation.
