Latin America Committee

Golden Gate Audubon's Latin America Committee works to promote conservation and educational programs in Latin America that benefit birds and their habitats, in part by becoming actively involved ourselves, and in part by encouraging an ecotourism that benefits environmental protection and promotes cultural exchanges. The Latin America Committee meets periodically at members' homes.

Recent and current projects include:

  • ¿Qué Vuela Ahí?, a book about 50 common birds of the Panama City region
  • Promotion of field trips and nature travel to Panama and other areas of Latin America
  • A pen-pal letter exchange, in collaboration with the Eco-Oakland Program, between the bilingual classes in East Oakland schools and students in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve in Mexico
